About AAU

Louisiana judo academy

Since its inception in 1888, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) has set the bar for amateur sports in the United States with one goal in mind: “Sports For All, Forever.” This motto has been the driving force behind AAU for the past century for sports throughout the world.

As the largest, non-profit, multi-sport event organization in the world, the AAU dedicates itself to promoting and developing amateur sports and physical fitness programs. It now has over 700,000 members and 150,000 volunteers in its over 40 sports programs within 50+ U.S. districts.

AAU is a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in international sports federations. It has worked closely with the Olympic movement, preparing athletes for the Olympic games until in the 1970s, it opened its doors to all ages beginning at the grassroots level.
